Time Well Spent in Franklin, TN

Franklin, TN, just south of Nashville, is not a bad spot to land whether for a visit or to lay down some roots. I have been fortunate to travel there frequently for work and recommend going there to spend time getting to know the quaint downtown or to visit Civil War history sites. The people are all friendly and make you feel welcome, even as the population has exploded in recent years. You also get the feeling like you might just run into a country music star at any point during your day because of the proximity to the Nashville music scene and known appeal of the area for many well-heeled performers.

Probably the nicest place to stay is the Harperh Hotel in downtown Franklin. My Expedia affiliate link is listed below if you are interested in seeing for yourself. I can say firsthand that it is a cut above the rest based on my stay late last year. The lobby feels warm and comfortable and also has meeting rooms if needed.

The vibe around town is friendly and cool. The locals know they have a a unique community on their hands, whether that means enjoying the rolling hills and country side, gawking at the huge houses in nearby Brentwood, or visiting The Factory adaptive reuse project filled with shops and restaurants, walking through the historic downtown streets, or visiting newer areas like Berry Farms.

Franklin is also a great place for a drive through the country. I don’t have any real recommendations but I’ve head that the Natchez Trace Parkway offers a historic and scenic drive for miles on end. Get lost on a backroad and pullover whenever possible to take photos or to explore a hiking or nature trail.

Also, be sure to grab a bite to eat at Puckets in downtown Franklin or any of the Biscuit Love locations. Puckett’s seems to be a local institution and you won’t be disappointed by the local and casual country fare. Biscuit Love is cute and homey and delivers all the goods when it comes to breakfast or lunch.
