I enjoyed a fun day trip to Boston before heading to Martha’s Vineyard for a conference. It was my first time in Boston though I’ve wanted to go for years. I never found the right opportunity to go until now.
I had a very long layover in Boston so I decided to venture out into the City. I did a little bit of internet searching before I got there but I mai it played it by ear. I had noticed from a prior flight at Logan airport how close downtown Boston was from the airport by water. I decided to reach my water transport options upon landing.
#66 Shuttle from the airport to dock
I followed signs to ground transport and using a combo of the internet and signage and asking for help, I ended up on the #66 shuttle to the water transport dock. From there, it wanted the option with the most flexibility as far as hours to return so I went with the water bus, which ran on an hourly schedule.
While I felt a little seasick on the ride, the short cruise was a beautiful way to approach the city on a glorious September day.
I was a bit disoriented when I got to Longs Wharf since I had never been to Boston before, but I just started walking and using the Apple Maps feature on my phone and looking for destinations. I had heard of before and ended up making it to Quincy Market where there was lots of delicious food to choose from but that I skipped. I’ll have to put Quincy Market on my to do list for the next time I return based on all of the fresh seafood, chowder, french fries, macaroni and cheese, and fattening foods I salivated over when walking through the market on my walk I also stumbled upon Hall where I was able to obtain a national park service map of the Freedom Trail. Since I was limited on time, I decided to hit some of the highlights of the tour. I was able to see the old House and the new state house. I visited Boston, the old city hall and several other locations on the freedom Trail,

I ended my sightseeing with a walk-through the North End neighborhood I went to Mike’s Pastries and got a giant cannoli. It was a very cool amd casual vibe at the bakery. I also saw Paul Revere‘s house.
Mike’s Pastry has big portions and is cash only. Beyond cannoli, there are many classic desserts to choose from.
The quick trip allowed me to touch on a few famous landmarks and decide how best to plan my time n Boston when I can back for a longer trip, perhaps even with the kids.
I decided that probably wasn’t cost-efficient for me to take the water bus back back to Logan airport so I ended up taking the subway system from the aquarium stop to the airport on the blue line.

I took the shuttle back to Logan where I boarded a very small plane to Martha’s Vineyard. I traveled on Cape Air airline in the smallest plane, a Cessna, that I’ve ever been on. The flight was about 40 minutes, long and we traveled to the island at sunset. It was quite beautiful.
Smaller than I thought
I even got to act as copilot and watch all the pilots notations and instrumentation while we flew.

I’ll have to write a separate post about Martha’s Vineyard since I pretty much just collapsed in my room as soon as I got to the hotel in Edgartown. Im looking forward to exploring the island tomorrow.
